"Profile" refers to readings taken as part of a water quality profile, while "reading" indicates readings which are not part of a profile.
Meteorology

"Periodic" readings are recorded multiple times per day, and are the average of multiple readings taken over the sampling interval. (more information)
"Daily min/max/avg" readings are recorded once per day, based on all of the readings taken by the data logger during a 24-hour period. (more information)
